Board of Education Goals

 

Student Achievement

  •  Continue to monitor the attainment of measurable progress in overall student, building and sub-group performance, including a 100% Secondary School graduation rate and continued PK-12 growth. Maintain a focus on the increased use of instructional technology to further the district’s mission.
  • Increase family engagement.

 

Budget Development and Fiscal Oversight

  •  Continue to develop a fiscally responsible and transparent budget given the economic constraints of the tax levy limit, maximizing efficiencies while maintaining the integrity of programs and services offered in the district.
  • Review / evaluate potential infrastructure upgrades and educational technology solutions that support the District’s mission.

 

Governance

  •  Update District Policy Manual

 

Communication

  •  Continue communications to the school community via the district website, Facebook, Twitter and other emergent technologies.

 

Advocacy

  •  At least 1 BOE member will attend each of the Allegany County, Catt/Alleg School Board, and Rural Schools Association meetings.
  • BOE members will communicate to local and state politicians when the subject directly impacts the WCSD and/or rural schools.

Two (2) Board Vacancies

The Wellsville Central School Board of Education announces two (2) school board vacancies expiring on June 30, 2025.

These vacancies are for three-year terms and will expire on June 30, 2028. Anyone interested in running for the school board can pick up a petition at the District Office located in the Secondary School at 126 West State Street in Wellsville.  Petitions will be available on March 3rd.  The petition requires signatures of at least twenty-five (25) qualified voters of the district and must be filed with the District Clerk at least thirty (30) days prior to the budget vote on May 20, 2025. The last day petitions can be accepted is April 21, 2025. Please direct any questions you may have to Megan Burdick, District Clerk at 596-2170.

To qualify for membership on the school board, the following conditions must be met:

  • Must be able to read and write.
  • Must be a qualified voter of the district; that is, a citizen of the United States, at least 18 years of age or older, and not adjudged to be an incompetent.
  • Must be and have been a resident (but need not be a taxpayer) of the district for a continuous and uninterrupted period of at least one year immediately before election.
  • May not have been removed from any school district office within the preceding year.
  • May not reside with another member of the same school board as a member of the same family.
  • May not be a current employee of the school board.
  • May not simultaneously hold another incompatible public office.
