Instrument Rental Info:
As it mentions in the syllabus, there are two main ways to obtain an instrument for the year.
Rent to Own from RMSides:
RMSides is an instrument shop based in PA, who provides quality string instruments. They have a rent-to-own policy, as well as a free exchange program. As your student grows, RMSides will exchange what you have for an instrument that fits them. Once all of the payments are made, you own it! All necessary string accessories like shoulder rests or rosin will be supplied with the rental. RMSides will work directly with you if damage occurs to the instrument. If you prefer this option, please go to www.rmsides.com and fill out the form under "instrument rental". The instrument will be dropped off directly to the school for pick-up.
If you have questions about what size instrument your musician should start with, reach out to me and I can help!
Rent from the School:
Renting from the school is a quick and easy way to get your student an instrument. For this, there is one annual fee of $50. This includes the instrument, a case and a bow. Bass players and high school students are exempt from this rental fee. As students grow, I have the ability to exchange their instrument for one that best fits their size. So if your student encounters a rapid growth spurt, I can make sure that the instrument they are using still fits them. I can also fix most minor issues with string instruments (broken strings, fallen bridges, etc.). If the problems are more than what I can handle, I work with Monaco's String Shop who is located in Amherst, NY. In almost all cases, the $50 rental fee covers any damage that can occur. If it doesn’t, families may be asked to help pay for the damage.
The school has a limited fleet of instruments. Instrument rental is on a first come, first serve basis. If you have questions about payment, please contact me at nluthart@wlsv.org or through ParentSquare.
If you chose to rent from the school, there will be a rental sheet coming home with your musician within the first few weeks of school. Please read through the form, sign the bottom and return to me (if you want to rent from the school!). If you have any questions, you can reach me through my email - nluthart@wlsv.org or through Parent Square.
Please DO NOT buy an instrument from Amazon, eBay, Walmart, Craigslist, Temu, Etc!!!! While cheap, these instruments are not quality and will make your student's orchestra experience harder and less rewarding. If you would like to buy an instrument, please consider doing so from RMSides, Monaco's String Shop (Amherst NY) or Twin Village Music (Lancaster NY).
Thanks!
