Workplace Violence Prevention

Workplace Violence Prevention

Creating and maintaining a safe, respectful, and violence-free school environment is a fundamental responsibility shared by all members of our Lions community. The New York State Workplace Violence Prevention Act (Public Employer Workplace Violence Prevention Law, Labor Law §27-b), enacted on June 7, 2006, and amended in 2024 to extend to elementary & secondary public education requires all public employers—including school districts—to develop and implement programs to prevent and address workplace violence.

Under this law, school districts must evaluate potential risks of workplace violence, establish prevention programs, and train employees to recognize, respond to, and report incidents or threats of violence. These protections extend to all school employees, including teachers, administrators, and support staff, ensuring that every individual has the right to a workplace free from intimidation, aggression, or physical harm.
